The use of spring steel and its types
Each, even a small change in the chemical composition of any steel can change its properties and assign to a different type of this material. One of the special families of steel is spring steel. These types of steel are very often used, so it is worth taking a closer look at their specificity. It is worth getting to know their most important features and usage possibilities that can improve our comfort of life. They do not help people in the lives of people involved in the industry, but in the lives of ordinary people. This is why it is worth making a closer look at this article.
Spring steel for hardening: steel 75, C75S, 1.1248
Spring steel C75S is primarily characterized by low hardenability in the case of less loaded springs. This is carbon steel whose main advantages are:
•high abrasion resistance
This type can be found primarily in saws for cutting stones, watch springs or all resilient parts. Steel 1.1248 thanks to its great properties can be used in springs and springs. You can also find its use in the form of structural steel, where the links for buckets, bolts, stamping mandrels or even plates for ball mills and presses are the result of its use. AISI 1075 is a non-flammable but susceptible decarburization and oxidation - during heat treatment. Noteworthy is its insensitivity to fragility.
Coal spring steel: C67S, 1.1231, CK67, C67, CK68, 65 steel
This is another type - the ideal representative is, for example, 1.1231. Similarly to the above-mentioned type and here we are dealing with structural steel with low hardenability, but this is mainly used for springs that are less loaded and work periodically.
Ideally suited for hardening:
•surface with cross-sections up to 10mm
AISI 1065 can be found most often where there are shock absorbers, clutch springs or valves. At the same time, the steel is ideally suited for tools ranging from hammers to all other spring elements. Similarly, it is well used even for chisels, rake teeth and punches. Not infrequently it is chosen as a material for adjustable washers or flat springs, so as you can see it is a very versatile and extremely useful material.
The most important features of spring carbon steel:
•immunity to atmospheric corrosion
•susceptibility to oxidation during heat treatment
•susceptibility to decarburization during heat treatment
In summary, it is a very solid type of spring steel with versatile use.
Spring carbon steel: C85S, 1.1269, CK85, XC85, CS85, 85
Our combination of spring steel types closes AISI 1086. It is a steel with low hardenability. Ideally suited wherever they are periodically working, but little loaded:
Its important feature is the lack of sensitivity to the fragility of tempering. However, this is not the end of the advantages of steel 1.1269. Its high strength, high hardness and resistance to abrasion puts it on a "steel podium". This is a short way to use it for such noble machines as saws or spiral springs. The reason is primarily its high carbon content and small amount of alloy additives.
